Is Your Business Doing Well?
One question that almost everyone seems to ask me these days is “How is your business doing?” If you’ve asked me this question before, I’ve likely told you that things were going well, but it’s a question that has definitely got me thinking! How do you actually know when your business is doing well? I think the definition of success is very personal and could be attributed to a number of things. I think it all comes down to what is important to you and your business and if you are achieving your goals.
- Employee Pay
We knew we wanted to pay our awesome employees above minimum wage, and if possible we waned to pay them a liveable wage. We were able to do this by paying them by the amount of bars that they produced rather than paying them by hour. They are now extremely efficient and make between $20-$30/hour.
I used to be a social worker and helped people for a living before I ventured off in the business world. My love of helping people didn’t just end when I stopped practicing social work. When we launched Goodness To Go Energy we knew right away that we wanted to donate a portion of our profits to charity. Initially, we weren’t completely sure where we wanted this money to go, until we recently came up with a plan. Stay tuned for future blogs to hear more about where 10% of our profits will be going!
Most people would say that their business is successful if it is being profitable, and I wouldn’t disagree with that. We have set short and long term goals for our business to continue to grow and expand and we are seeing many of our short term goals being met, which is telling us that we are on the right path towards growing a granola bar empire!
Because neither my husband nor myself have a business background we are learning many things along the way. Sometimes, you have to make mistakes in order to learn. It can be easy to get carried away with your mistakes and forget to celebrate the victories no matter how small!
The next time you ask me if my business is doing well, I will probably give you the same answer as before, but it’s nice to have taken some time to reflect on what that actually means!
